Robotic toys are super popular, kids love them, and they continue to evolve every year. Not only are robotic toys fun to use, but they are also extremely educational. Children learn hands-on while building, programming, and interacting with robotic toys like the Meccano MeccaNoid G15 KS Personal Robot.
Studies show robotic toys help kids develop in 4 key areas. These are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (or S.T.E.M. for short). Personal robots, like Meccano’s MeccaNoid G15 and G15 KS models, make it easy for kids to apply what they learn in an actual working environment.
But what can these personal toy robots do? Are they easy to assemble and use? Find out by reading our complete Meccano Meccanoid review down below.

Meccano MeccaNoid G15 & G15 KS Review
The Meccanoid G15 and G15 KS are extremely advanced robotic toys that boast several noteworthy and interactive features your kids will love. For example, these robots obey commands, come with voice recognition, motion capture, moving parts, and the ability to dance, sing, and even tell jokes. In many ways, they are more than just a toy; they can become a child’s best friend and play companion.
The Meccanoid G15 vs. The Meccanoid G15 KS

So what’s the difference between the Meccanoid G15 and the Meccanoid G15 KS? Both have much of the same functionality with just a few minor differences.
The first difference is height. The G15 stands about 2’ tall whereas the G15 KS stands about 4’ tall. The G15 KS also has a wider range of motion, has more mobility in the head and neck, and comes with a rechargeable battery pack as opposed to the 4 C batteries required by the G15.
Meccanoids come with the ability to understand more than 100 commands. Some of the most basic include telling the robot to make specific movements like going forward, back, or to either side. Commands are as simple as “Walk Forward”.
The most exciting part is children can also teach these robots to do new things and save new commands. The possibilities are endless and the fun never stops!
But Meccanoids don’t just take commands. They remember your name and are also sophisticated enough to freely interact with people, start and carry on conversations, tell you facts, play games, and ask questions. This is made possible by a large database of more than 1000 phrases in the robot’s “MeccaBrain”. Your own personal robot might even make you laugh with its own wise-cracking sense of humor and joke-telling capabilities.
Another favorite feature of Meccano’s Meccanoids is called Learned Intelligent Movement (LIM) with Motion Capture. With this technology, children can program movements and sounds and play them back with the push of a button.
There are several different ways to make a Meccanoid move. For example, you can move the robot’s arms up and down manually, turn its head side to side, and set it to record and replay those motions.
Alternatively, you can program it with motion capture, where it mimics your movements using the camera of a smartphone mounted to its chest.
And lastly, you can download the free Meccanoid App from Google Play or AppStore onto your phone or tablet, and then use your finger to swipe the on-screen Rag Doll avatar to make Meccanoid twist, turn, or move any way you want.
Is It Hard To Assemble?
Assembling the robots takes time as there are over 600 parts in the G15 and more than 1,000 pieces to the G15 KS robot, but the time spent engineering is well worth it. Assembly is not hard or difficult to understand, and you can use the real tools included.
After you complete your Meccanoid’s frame and have plugged in the batteries, its Meccabrain comes to life and guides you through the process of connecting its motors.
Every Meccanoid kit includes all necessary assembly parts, 1 Meccabrain, 1 LED module, 2 hand tools, servos, 2 rear wheel assemblies, 2 motor gearbox assemblies, and instruction manual. The G15 KS also includes a wall mount charger and rechargeable battery.
What If I Don’t Like The Way My Robot Looks?
Not a fan of “robots”? Would you rather have a Personal Dinosaur or a Personal Dog instead? With a Meccanoid robot toy, it’s possible! All you have to do is disassemble your robot and re-create whatever body form your imagination dreams up. There are more than enough parts to play around with.
What Age Range Is A Meccano Meccanoid Best Suited For?
The Meccanoid robots are not for toddlers or young children and are recommended for kids 8 and up.
